Why a Women Owned Club is Important in the Fastest Growing Sport for Girls

Written by Amber Martin

As a mom of a young daughter, I’m constantly looking for ways to empower her to become the best version of herself. I want her surrounded by people who see her potential, challenge her, support her, and help her grow—not only as an athlete, but as a confident and capable young woman.

For the first several years of her childhood, athletics didn’t seem to be her strength. We tried dance, but it didn’t last long. Then, once a growth spurt hit in her preteen years, we decided to explore youth volleyball. I had no idea that joining a girls volleyball program would become one of the most transformative experiences of her life. She didn’t just enjoy the sport—she fell in love with it. She learned the skills, developed discipline, and truly blossomed into a dedicated and talented young athlete.

Finding the Right Coaches in Club Volleyball

Her very first season of club volleyball was truly life changing. She was coached by LIV Club Owner, Susie Packard, who immediately recognized her potential. Susie believed in her before she believed in herself—pushing her, guiding her, and helping her grow not only in skill, but also in confidence. Two years later, Susie announced she was starting her own woman-owned volleyball club: LIV Volleyball. Around the same time, we learned that another strong female coach—Sierra Lim, whom my daughter deeply admired—would also be joining LIV. Together, they formed a powerful team: knowledgeable, passionate, and deeply committed to creating an empowering environment for young female athletes.

From the moment we heard their vision for LIV Volleyball, I knew it was exactly where my daughter belonged.

Girls Volleyball: The Fastest-Growing Sport in the Country

It surprised me to learn just how fast girls’ volleyball is expanding. It is quickly becoming the number one sport for girls in the United States, with participation rising every year. As more girls enter the sport, choosing the right club and the right environment becomes even more important.

This is especially true for adolescent female athletes, who need leaders who understand:

  • The physical development unique to growing girls

  • The mental and emotional challenges they face

  • How to foster confidence, strength, and resilience

  • How to build a supportive and positive team culture

For me as a mom, ensuring my daughter is guided by people who understand girls is non-negotiable.

Why LIV Volleyball Stands Out as a Woman-Owned Volleyball Club

LIV Volleyball isn’t just another club. Being woman-owned and women-led gives it something truly special—a leadership style rooted in empathy, communication, empowerment, and strong female mentorship.

Women who have played, coached, and lived the sport bring a deep understanding of what girls need to succeed. They know how to motivate without discouraging, how to challenge without overwhelming, and how to make the gym a place girls feel strong, supported, and inspired.

In a landscape filled with many youth volleyball options, this kind of leadership takes precedence for me. Skills and tournaments matter, but the people shaping my daughter’s mindset and confidence matter more.

A Culture Designed for Female Athletes

One of the standout qualities of LIV Volleyball is the culture they intentionally create. Their motto, “We don’t just play volleyball, we live it,” isn’t just a slogan—it’s a reflection of their mission to help girls grow as athletes and as young women.

LIV Volleyball cultivates a girl-centered environment where athletes:

  • Feel safe taking risks

  • Build real confidence

  • Learn discipline and responsibility

  • Form positive friendships

  • Receive mentorship from strong female role models

  • Develop a lifelong love for the sport

This is exactly the kind of environment that helps girls thrive not only on the court, but in every area of their lives.

Building Stronger Girls Through Volleyball

Watching my daughter grow at LIV Volleyball has been one of the most meaningful experiences as a parent. The coaches aren’t just teaching volleyball—they’re teaching leadership, resilience, teamwork, and grit. They are showing her what strong, passionate, empowered women look like.

And as girls’ volleyball continues to grow across the country, I can’t imagine a better place for her to learn and evolve than under the guidance of a club created for girls, by women who truly understand them.

A woman-owned club like LIV Volleyball matters. It shapes the athlete. It shapes the experience. And most importantly—it empowers the girl behind the jersey.
